Levels of Care for Teen Girls

Juniper Haven offers three levels of care — Residential Treatment, Day Treatment, and Intensive Outpatient — so your daughter gets the right structure, safety, and clinical support at every stage of her recovery.

Residential Treatment

Structure and safety — around the clock.

Residential is the highest level of care — appropriate when home or school isn’t currently safe or workable and your teen needs around-the-clock support to stabilize and rebuild coping skills.

This level may be right if:

  • Emotions feel overwhelming most of the day (frequent meltdowns, shutdowns, impulsive behavior)
  • Ongoing self-harm or frequent suicidal thoughts/behaviors
  • School isn’t happening (or she can’t function when she’s there)
  • Home feels unsafe, chaotic, or highly triggering
  • Parents feel exhausted and unsure how to keep her safe
  • Sometimes follows a behavioral health hospitalization

Day Treatment

Full-day therapeutic support — home in the evenings.

Day Treatment (also called PHP) is a full day of therapy and skill-building. Teens come in during the day and return home at night. It’s a strong fit when your teen needs frequent support and structure, but can remain safe at home overnight.

This level may be right if:

  • Significant anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation
  • Struggling to attend school consistently
  • Unhealthy coping skills are showing up (sometimes substance-use concerns)
  • Past self-harm/suicidal thoughts, but she can stay safe at home with support
  • Needs intensive therapy and structure — without overnight care

Intensive Outpatient Program

Part-day structured support that fits around life.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) is a step down from Day Treatment — more support than weekly therapy, but less than full-day care. Teens usually attend school most days and come in for structured therapy part of the day.

This level may be right if:

  • Anxiety or depression is present but manageable
  • She can attend school most days
  • Home is relatively stable
  • She needs more support than weekly therapy to build coping skills
  • Shutdowns or meltdowns can happen, but less frequently than higher levels of care
  • She can keep herself safe evenings and weekends
